I-9 Employment Verification and E-Verify Compliance

Brown Glier Law advises employers of all sizes on the I-9 employment verification process, as well as voluntary and mandatory use of the E-Verify program. We provide counseling, training, and auditing services to assist clients in bringing their files into compliance in the ordinary course of doing business, and as a part of due diligence during corporate transactions. We also provide counsel during audits and raids with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Department of Justice, and the Department of Labor.

While I-9 employment verification is often overlooked as just one more item during the on-boarding process, audits by federal agencies do occur and can result in fines and other penalties for paperwork and more substantive violations. Our auditing services begin with a “friendly” audit of the client’s I-9 files and practices, training on timely and proper completion of the Form I-9, reverification requirements, correction of errors and omissions, storage and retention policies, and development of a regular training schedule thereafter. We also counsel clients on proper examination and recording of unique employment eligibility documents, such as Curricular Practical Training, Temporary Protected Status, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, as well as other employment verification challenges, including Social Security mis-match issues and tentative non-confirmation procedures within the E-Verify system.,
